6 Safety Tips for Gas Welding

Gas welding is a process in which you join metals wherein the ends of two pieces are heated at their interface and joined by producing coalescence with one or more gas flames, namely oxygen and acetylene, with or without the use of filler metal. What exactly happens here is a fuel gas such as hydrogen, acetylene, natural gas, etc. is mixed with oxygen in proper proportion to burn to get a flame which, if found suitable for melting a given metal, can be used for fusing and assembling different parts of it. Here are a few tips for storage and handling:

Once you are done with the gas welding procedure or gas welding equipment, always keep the gas and oxygen cylinders at a minimum distance of 20 feet. The other thing that you can also opt for is to divide them with the right firewall.

The cylinders can easily catch fire if not kept in a correct manner. So, make sure you keep the combustible and flammable materials as far as you from the cylinders.

It is best advised to store the cylinders away from heat and tampering. Store it in a cool place.
Another important point here is that one must always maintain the cylinders in an upright position. If you can then try chaining them steadily and keep the cylinders together in an upright position as this will help them from falling over.

When you want to make some movement with the cylinders make sure the cylinder valves have been closed tightly before moving it.
Also, look for the defending caps, as these caps and regulators must be well maintained and kept in the right place.

It is advised that one must not pull the cylinders while shifting them. You must rather roll the cylinders to the bottom edges and move it accordingly while you want to shift it from one place to another.
Transporting can be a tedious and daunting task. In such circumstances, it is best to reduce cylinder movements as much as possible.

-While lifting gas cylinders, there are certain equipment’s that are provided for the same. Make sure you only use those equipment’s; this will not only help in safety but also make your life easier and simpler.

-Check torches and make sure you clean them with the provided or rather suitable tools.

-If you are welding, it is important that you use the blow-back protection torches.
-It is important that you must keep a close check on all the equipment’s and make sure there are no leakages at all connections. You can get this done by using an approved-test solution.

-When at a welding site, always keep fire extinguishers at an extremely reachable place. These extinguishers can come handy in case of an emergency.

-Always remember to stand at the side while opening the cylinder valves.
So, make sure you always keep in mind these safety tips.
